As the first television personality since Pedro Zamora to be vocal about his HIV status, Jack Mackenroth has quickly become the most visible, out HIV+ advocate and educator in the country. . . if not the world. With the release of his 2012 calendar, he hopes to raise both money and awareness for AIDS research, and to show through his photographs that a person living with HIV can be in top physical form, healthy and sexy. All proceeds from the calendar will go to amfAR (http://www.amfar.org/) to help find a cure for AIDS. Mackenroth has been living with the disease for 22 years.

Designer, athlete and HIV/AIDS activist and educator Jack Mackenroth has had the priveledge of shooting with some of the best photographers in the business. Each month of the 15 month calendar will feature a different photographer with a very different style. Jack is a role model to many people in the HIV community and a fitness model that many aspire to emulate.

Photographers taking part in the project include Adam Bouska, Rick Day, Carsten Fleck, Frank Louis, James Franklin, Karl Giant, Tommy Synnamon, Mattheus Lian, Richard Gerst, Ray John Pila, Sonny Tong, Thomas Evans, Krys Fox and Preston Cros.

“I have amassed such an amazing collection of images that I wanted to put out a calendar that will help to combat the silence and stigma associated with being HIV-positive,” says Mackenroth. He adds, “If I can raise money for HIV/AIDS research, it’s even better.”

Jack has been a vocal and visible advocate of the HIV community, touring the country through numerous speaking engagements and special appearances at events. He continues to speak around the country and will be planning calendar signing events in the upcoming months. His memoir, “Making Lemonaids” will be released this winter.

Jim French Studios, who helped make COLT STUDIOS,   last year stated in a multi-million dollar lawsuit that they were owed $2.2 million related to the sell of the COLT Studio gay porn studio.  The original sale of the studio took place more than seven years ago. And Jim French was never paid a dime.

The legend of COLT Studios goes back to the early years of gay porn and is one of the original studios ever distribute commercial gay adult entertainment to consumers.  They have been in operation since 1967.

According to  reports and  various court documents, COLT Studio’s new executives and life -partners John Rutherford and Thomas Settle, started having trouble shortly after closing escrow back in 2003.

Rutherford and Settle “discovered that the existing business and brand was dead, and that the only means to capitalize on the assets purchased was to produce new, contemporary content, while leveraging what little equity remained in the COLT brand.” “[COLT] began to run into difficulty when it was discovered that it was not provided all of the images which it had purchased,” court papers said. “Without the images, it was difficult to produce new packaging, magazines and calendars.”

COLT  has restructured, and continues to do so.  And the new owners are trying to work out a deal with deal with French. According to reports the settlement reached is allegedly set at
$ 500,000.00 to be paid over 20 installments. Ajudge is expected to sign off on the agreement this week, and start the payments flowing to Jim French.

 Last week we told you all about

Sherwin Carlquist and recent book called UNCUT.

I wanted to share with you this week, more images from his BEST OF Collection book MEN IN NATURE.

He has specialized in studies on plant anatomy and island biology (7 books, nearly 300 scientific papers). He had a successful career, especially in teaching and research, as a professor in California.

In his earlier days, he also studied art–particularly composition and design–at the Pasadena Art Institute. His plant anatomy papers and books contain many photographs done with the microscope. When he wrote his book, “HAWAII A NATURAL HISTORY,” he began to realize that in photographing plants and animals, placing them in relation to their native landscapes creates compelling images.

He developed the idea of applying this to human subjects–a man in a landscape, combining the forms of each into a unified picture. The tradition of Western Art has often been to combine the nude male (in sculpture or painting) with a landscape, emphasizing movement and emotion. This tradition has not really been represented in recent photography, which stresses the body and all too often leaves the rest of the space unused or not imaginatively used. Sherwin Carlquist has attempted to counter this lack, and to develop a genre in art photography that really has lain undeveloped. In a sense, he is photographing the human body like a natural history object, with the beauty and sensuality implied in nature photography of plants and animals focused on a human surrounded by great scenery.
